Anjalika Kurera became Sri Lanka’s lone warrior by entering the final in the ITF Under-18 junior Circuit Tennis Tournament now being held at the SLTA courts.
She will meet a player from Korea in the final to be played today. This achievement is believed to be after many years among the girls in the sport.
She started as the fifth seed in the girls draw in the first round and earned a comfortable win over a girl from India in the first round, 6-2, 6-2.
Anjalika played well in the second round to beat a girl from China 7-6, 7-3 (6-1) to advance to the quarter-final.
She then beat another girl from China 7-6, 7-3, (6-2) to advance to the semi-final.
However, in the semi-final she registered a comfortable win 6-2, 6-0 over sixth seed Harune Shigemasu from Japan on Friday.
Anjalika will now face a Korean opponent in the final today.
